What bunfire thinks?
Although it's been over three years since the last SoulCalibur game, this version seem very similar in comparison. SoulCalibur 5 may boast a new range of fighters but they are mostly descendants or students of the already famous combatants we knew for years. The 3D weapons based fighting retains the same fighting system as it always has with off the wall flashy moves and the new and improved Critical Edge system which give newbies the ability to jump in and perform impressive attacks.
The game revolves around a rock-paper-scissors type fighting style where your mistakes can cost you your life. The game is a bit of the same as the other SoulCalibur games in the past except with the new playable characters, this makes it repetitive for people who have been playing the game for a long time. The game boast impressive graphics and great music, although the characters voice overs could use some work.
The addition of Ezio from Assassins Creed is another addition as the Star wars characters were to SoulCalibur 4. Ezio will is a nice addition to the game that will help to keep things a bit fresh in the game.
With that addition of new characters and some new moves SoulCalibur 5 is definitely a fighting game worth playing. The game graphics and sounds are great but the story and the game modes are a bit lacking and disappointing to say the least. I don't mind the game modes however because it's a fighting game and I let the crappy storyline slide because I bought the game to fight my friend and others online and don't really care for the story. If you are someone who prefer to play the story mode/ Arcade mode/ survival mode then you might and probably will be disappointed in these aspects of the game.
All in all I love the fighting of the SoulCalibur universe, I love the way the combos link up and I love to play the game and challenge others. If you are the same as me most of the other features won't bother you so much and you probably want to see the old faces you are used to anyways. The game is pretty solid and the fighting lives up to the SoulCalibur theme as it's always has. I would recommend this game to all fighting game fans to give it a try and come join the SoulCalibur universe.
